Woodland Sunflower - Helianthus divaricatus

Woodland Sunflower is a wildlife superstar with prolific blooms, a robust growth pattern and a nice upright form. A vigorous grower, it will quickly form colonies of bright yellow flowers perched upon flexible stalks up to seven feet tall. Blooms in late summer. Provides great winter interest to your garden.

Drought tolerant and unusually shade tolerant for a sunflower. Especially suitable for dry, open woodland or fields, or the back border of an urban garden. Does well in clay and is ‍juglone tolerate, so it will grow well in the vicinity of our beloved black walnut trees. Deer resistant. Once established will maintain itself with no intervention.

Provides for an excellent year round natural bird feeder if the seed heads are left in place. Woodland sunflower is also attractive to pollinators and small mammals.
